Schools, Libraries and Writing Groups

Writing Young Adult fiction is my first love, because it gives me so much scope for investigating new ideas and worlds and genres. I really enjoy sharing my enthusiasm with audiences in schools, writing groups, libraries, festivals... anywhere.

I'm available for talks and workshops, where I like to get a two-way communication going. It's fun to share feedback, questions and even argument, and to confront the myths and barriers that surround creative writing.

My experience of events includes:

·         a two-day workshop for primary schoolchildren of all ages at Castle of Park, Aberdeenshire.

·         a special author event for secondary school pupils at Eastwood Park Theatre, Renfrewshire.

·         talks for World Book Day at local schools.

·         school talks and workshops that cover topics such as character creation, story development, voice and setting... most of all, the importance of making your own writing rules, and breaking down the barriers between the writer and the story.

I'm based in the north east of Scotland, but am willing to travel to events. For information about fees and travel costs, or to discuss any particular requirements you think I can help with, please contact me directly. I usually charge in line with Scottish Booktrust's live literature funding rates and the Society of Authors’ recommendations. Combining a day’s talks or workshops with another school or writing group can reduce fees and expenses.
